Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is set to leave the club on a free transfer.

The French defender Konate, 27, signed for Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m on a five-year deal. He has been featuring as a first-team defender alongside Virgil van Dijk. This season he has featured in a total of 51 games out of the possible 57. This now leaves Virgil van Dijk as the only experienced defender left after losing Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week. Jérémy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni will be joining this summer.

It will be the second consecutive year in which Liverpool has seen the first-team players leave on a free transfer. Last season Trent Alexander Arnold joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. This season Mo Salah has also left the club. Konate has won several trophies in his tenure, including 2 Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League and several domestic cups.
