Chelsea captain Reece James has suffered another injury setback after undergoing successful minor knee surgery, the club confirmed on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury during training and missed Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.
James has made six appearances across all competitions this season, including four Premier League matches and two League Cup games. He has played approximately 403 minutes without scoring or registering an assist.
According to reports, the England international could be sidelined for around three months, potentially ruling him out until January 2027. However, Chelsea have not officially confirmed his return date. The setback comes after James enjoyed a relatively successful 2025/26 campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions.
Chelsea released a statement confirming the news: “Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase. Everyone at Chelsea wishes Reece a speedy recovery and will support him on his road to return. ” He said.
