Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has broken his silence about the progress of the club.

In the second half of the season, Chelsea have been very poor, which has seen them drop from second place at some point late last year to currently sixth place. Fans have been unhappy with the nonstop changes to the team, and some even protested ahead of their game against Southampton on Tuesday. There have also been reports about a fallout between the two majority owners, Boehly and Clearlake.

Speaking on Thursday evening, Boehly said their strategy is based on players who want to stay at the club for the long term. “We look at how do we put together a team that stays together. If you look at the great dynasties in sports over the years, they all had superstar captains for many years, and part of what we look at is how we find that superstar captain or player that can stay with the team for their career.” He said.

He also spoke on Chelsea’s drop in form over the last few months. “December was peak, but eight weeks out, things are a little different. If you look at the foundations being built, the new management team, the new academy leadership, the sporting director leadership, and the player mindset, all that’s there, and now it is about cultivating the development of the team. You are always going to try to get better.”He said.
