Liverpool have confirmed the signing of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

The Premier League champions will now break the record for the biggest transfer spent in England after reaching a fee worth £130m. Liverpool have now broken their own record following the transfer of Florian Wirtz earlier this window. The 25-year-old striker has signed a six-year contract at the club. Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad and has led them to Carabao Cup victory and a Champions League place. Since joining them, he has been clinical in goal, where he has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances.

Speaking after his unveiling, Isak insisted he is happy to join the team. “It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans and getting back out there.” He said.
