The Talanta Sports City Stadium, Kenya’s largest sports infrastructure project in nearly 40 years, is now 66% complete.
Construction began in March 2024, and the stadium was initially expected to be ready by December 2025. However, completion and full operationalization have been pushed to February 2026 as construction progresses steadily.
The 60,000-seat stadium on Ngong Road is a flagship government project to boost Kenya’s sports infrastructure ahead of co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed that exterior works, including access roads and railway connectivity, are on track to finish by December, with final touches and interior works to follow.
The stadium will feature multiple training grounds and serve as a multi-purpose venue for football and rugby. This state-of-the-art facility aims to position Kenya as a continental sporting powerhouse and unlock youth potential through world-class infrastructure.
