Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has opened up about defeat to PSG in the Champions League.
The defending champions PSG defeated Chelsea in the round of 16 by 8-2 on aggregate. It was a game full of mistakes by Chelsea players, especially in the first leg played in Paris. Chelsea never recovered from the defeat and, thus, their performances. Since then they have not won any game and have now lost four matches in a row.
Speaking on what caused the defeat, defender Cucurella cited lack of experience in the team. “We lacked experience. For a lot of players, it was the first time playing a match of that calibre, and we paid the price. You can always make a mistake, but we should have handled it better. There was a return game to play, and if you keep a cool head, you go back to London with a 3-2 defeat & anything can happen.” He said.
He also added that he is currently happy and settled in London but that could change in the future and also insisted there was no reason to change the head coach mid-season. “The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us. These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision. To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season.” He said.
