Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat to defending champions PSG in the Champions League.

PSG started the game on the front foot as they were playing at home in the first leg. Doue scored the opening goal via a slight deflection in the 11th minute after lovely team play. Mamardashvili came to Slot’s rescue as he pushed away Doue again. Kvaratskhelia came close to doubling the lead, but once again Mamardashvili denied him as the halftime approached.

In the second half, Hugo Ekitike blazed his effort over the bar just minutes after the restart. Dembele wasted a glorious chance after failing to hit the target from Nuno Mendes’ cutback. Kvaratskhelia doubled PSG’s lead when he wiggled past Mamardashvili and slotted it into the open net. PSG thought they had a penalty when Konaté brought down Emery in the box, but VAR overturned the call. Alexander Isak made his return to action after a lengthy spell but could not find a consolation.

Speaking after the loss, Arne Slot admitted PSG were the better side. “We were in survival mode for large parts of the game, but maybe also the period of the season we are in, we are in survival mode. PSG were the better team, but we didn’t give up, and that is why we still have a chance. They kept us alive by not scoring a few open chances.” He said.
