Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy is set to unveil his authorized biography, titled Benni, in February 2026. The book, co-authored with renowned football writer Mark Gleeson and published by Pan Macmillan South Africa, traces McCarthy’s journey from the Cape Flats to becoming the only South African to win the UEFA Champions League.
It also covers his transition from a prolific playing career—where he became South Africa’s all-time top scorer—to his coaching roles, including his current position leading Kenya’s national team.
The biography promises an intimate look at McCarthy’s life, featuring insights from his time under Jose Mourinho at FC Porto and his stints with clubs like Ajax, Blackburn Rovers, and Orlando Pirates.
McCarthy’s coaching philosophy, shaped by Mourinho, emphasizes passion, motivation, and a champion’s mindset, which he now brings to the Harambee Stars as Kenya prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Fans can pre-order the book and look forward to McCarthy’s promotional tour in South Africa early next year
