Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon has officially resigned from his position within the Italian Football Federation, ending a brief spell in football administration.

Buffon joined the federation in 2023 shortly after announcing his retirement from professional football. His role focused on supporting the Italian national team setup, where he worked closely with players and staff, offering leadership, experience, and mentorship gained from his remarkable career.

His time with the federation lasted around one year, making it a short but meaningful transition from playing to administration. Despite the limited duration, Buffon’s presence was seen as valuable, especially during a period when Italian football has been rebuilding and seeking stability after recent international setbacks.

The federation confirmed his resignation, although no specific reasons were disclosed. It is believed that the decision may be influenced by internal changes or Buffon’s personal plans regarding his future in football.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Buffon earned over 170 caps for Italy and was instrumental in their 2006 FIFA World Cup triumph. His legacy at club level, particularly with Juventus, further cemented his status as a global icon.

While his administrative chapter has ended, Buffon’s influence in football remains strong, and his next move will be closely watched.
