GOR MAHIA

Former AFC Leopards defender Reginald Asibwa has highlighted that Gor Mahia will face intense pressure ahead of their Mashemeji Derby clash on Sunday, 7 December. Despite Gor Mahia leading the league and being favorites, Asibwa compared the matchup to David versus Goliath, stating the burden of expectation lies heavily on Gor Mahia, who have multiple national team players.

Asibwa believes AFC Leopards can capitalize if they maintain a strong defense early in the game and frustrate Gor Mahia’s attacking efforts. He stressed the importance of mental strength, urging the Leopards to play with confidence rather than fear. Asibwa also noted the absence of public confidence declarations from Leopards’ management, a factor that previously boosted player morale.

The derby, postponed due to venue conflicts, will now take place at Nyayo Stadium at 3 PM, with the women’s teams competing beforehand. The encounter promises to be a tactical and psychological battle where smart defensive play and composure could tip the scales in AFC Leopards’ favor.
