Twelve-time Kenya Premier League champions AFC Leopards have rung immediate changes in the player’s leadership structure after the National Executive Committee (NEC) stripped of Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong’o from their captaincy roles forthwith.

On a post shared on the club’s official social media portal on Wednesday, Ingwe, without divulging too much information announced the decision taken by the NEC.

“AFC Leopards National Executive Committee has stripped of Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong’o from their captaincy roles in the team with immediate effect. More communication to follow,” the club posted.

The decision to strip of the two from the leadership roles comes on the back of the team’s recent turmoil where a section of the players staged a go slow that culminated in an embarrassing 2-1 loss to minnows Vihiga Bullets.

When reached out to establish as to what might have triggered the change in the leadership of the playing unit, club chairman Dan Shikanda said the latest development will go a long way in solving ‘internal issues’ as he promised to divulge more in the course of the week.

“The change is aimed at curing some internal issues,” he told Mozzart Sport.

Back in March 2022, Mukangula, who is the longest-serving player at the club having joined from Thika United in 2018, succeeded Marvin Nabwire as the club captain after the latter departed to Kenya Police FC.

The Patrick Aussems coached side face Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks in their final two games of the 2022/2023 season.
