Kylian Mbappe has penned an emotional letter to outgoing France head coach Didier Deschamps.
Mbappé, the all-time leading French goal scorer with 66 goals, has seen his best years in a France shirt under Deschamps. They won the World Cup in 2018 in Russia under Deschamps but fell short four years later to Argentina. In this campaign, they were eliminated by Spain in the semifinals. They also lost the final game 6-4 to England despite Mbappe scoring twice.
He took to his social media pages to thank him for leading the group. “Putting into words what you have brought over 14 years is very difficult, because you have been such a major figure in the rebirth of this team. People have not always known how to appreciate your greatness, but time and history will take care of that.” He said.
He also admitted France failed in his last tournament, “You who have given us so much. We should have given you a better ending, but we failed.” He concluded.
