Paris Saint-Germain secured their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup title after defeating Aston Villa 2–1 in an entertaining contest in Salzburg.
PSG opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose powerful finish gave Marco Bizot little chance. Villa responded impressively, with 17-year-old Brian Madjo causing problems for the PSG defence. After missing a headed opportunity earlier, Madjo eventually equalised just before half-time with a composed volley, becoming the youngest scorer in Super Cup history.
Villa continued to threaten after the interval. John McGinn was denied by Matvey Safonov, while Madjo came close again and George Hemmings forced another save from the PSG goalkeeper. Emi Buendía also missed a late headed chance. PSG regained the lead in the 61st minute when Désiré Doué finished calmly after breaking through the Villa defence. Although Villa pushed relentlessly for an equaliser, PSG remained composed to secure a deserved victory and another European trophy.
