The Harambee Stars suffered a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Ivory Coast in the World Cup qualifiers.
Ivory Coast started very strong as Manchester United player Amad Diallo pounced on a loose ball and squared Nicolas Pepe, but Owino cleared the ball off the line.Frank Kessie then minutes later opened the scoring for the home side after a lovely chip past Bryne Omondi. Ivory Coast dominated the majority of the first half and was leading at halftime.
In the second half, the Harambee Stars improved their game, but captain Michael Olunga found it hard to pass the Ivory defence. Ibrahim Sangare saw his free kick sail off the bar for the hosts. Ivory Coast then doubled the lead for the home side in the 54th minute through Diomande after persistent pressure from the hosts. United winger Diallo wrapped things up for the home side via a free kick in the 87th minute of the game and sent Ivory Coast to the World Cup.
Ivory Coast won the group, while Gabon came second with 25 points after beating Burundi 2-0, Gambia third with 13 points, and Kenya finished 4th with 12 points.
