Shabana FC supporters have a promising future as plans to renovate and upgrade Kisii County Stadium to international standards gain momentum. President William Ruto acknowledged the current facility’s inadequacy for hosting a club of Shabana’s stature, emphasizing the need for a modern stadium to accommodate the team’s large and passionate fan base. To facilitate expansion, the neighboring Agricultural Shows of Kenya will be relocated, freeing up space necessary for the project. A contractor is on standby, ready to begin work as soon as the county administration completes the requisite paperwork.
The Kisii County Government has already undertaken significant renovations at Gusii Stadium, which currently meets Football Kenya Federation Premier League standards and serves as Shabana’s home ground. The upcoming comprehensive upgrade aims to further elevate the stadium with improved seating, VIP areas, and enhanced infrastructure to support both local and international fixtures. The renovation is expected to boost revenue generation during sporting events and nurture talent within the region, positioning Gusii Stadium as one of the country’s premier venues.
President Ruto’s commitment to upgrading Kisii County Stadium follows his broader vision to modernize Kenya’s sports infrastructure ahead of major continental events, including AFCON 2027. His previous support to Shabana FC, such as gifting the club a modern team bus, reflects his dedication to nurturing grassroots football and supporting local teams to compete on bigger stages. With these developments, Shabana FC is poised to experience improved facilities and increased fan engagement in the near future.
