Several Kenyan Women’s Premier League teams, including Kisped Queens, Kayole Starlets, Madira Soccer Assassins, and Kibera Soccer Women, have boldly declared on social media that they won’t play this weekend’s matches.
Despite the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) insisting the games go ahead, these clubs are digging in their heels.
Their grievances? A laundry list of broken promises: zero word from FKF on the FIFA Women’s Development Fund that’s already in hand; no sponsor unveiled since the November tease; unpaid financial aid pledged by the Women’s Representative by the first leg’s end; silence on the Women’s Cup launch; no backing for that tournament; and FKF even asking clubs to foot transport for Harambee Starlets players.
The teams argue these red flags have left them no choice but to halt play until FKF steps up. Will this standoff reshape women’s football in Kenya?
