Kenya risks being booted from the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) co-hosting agreement with Uganda and Tanzania after missing the Ksh 3.9 billion ($30 million) fee deadline set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
With a critical cutoff on March 30, Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi sounded the alarm. “Uganda and Tanzania have paid up under our ‘Pamoja’ pact, but Kenya hasn’t,” he explained.
CAF demands this as proof of seriousness, warning that non-payment will jeopardize the bid.As football fever builds across East Africa, Kenya must act fast to secure its role and the tournament’s promised boost to tourism and infrastructure.
