AFC Leopards defeated archrivals Gor Mahia 2-1 in the Mashemeji derby, which was played at the Moi Sports Center Kasarani on Sunday afternoon.

Gor Mahia went into the game on top of the FKF Premier League with just a few games remaining. Benson Omalla missed a glorious chance to give them the lead as he sailed his penalty kick wide.

The Leopards took advantage as Victor Omune scored the game’s first goal from the penalty spot. However, Austin Odhiambo quickly restored parity when he scored the leveler for Gor Mahia. Minutes before halftime, Breal Otieno headed in his third goal of the year to give them the lead.

In the second half, Opiyo had to make another brilliant save eight minutes after the restart to keep out Odhiambo’s effort. A few minutes later, Otieno was sent through on goal by Mukangula, but he could not manage to beat Gad Matthews.

After the loss, Gor Mahia dropped to second place with 63 points, while the AFC Leopards are in seventh place with 45 points.
