Two of the most successful nations in the continent go head to head in Group B of the Africa Cup of Nations when Egypt take on Ghana at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday from 2300hours.

While both nations are favourites to make it out of the group on paper, a disappointing opening-day outing has put them under pressure to get the result.

Egypt had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Mozambique thanks to Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah last minute penalty, on the other hand, Ghana suffered 2-1defeat in the hands of Cape Verde.

Egypt and Ghana have met seven times since 2009 in different competitions such as world cup qualifiers, African Cup Of Nations and international friendlies. Out of the 7 encounters, Egypt have managed to win 4matches, drawing 2 while loosing only 1.

Both teams will have to rely on their super stars such as Mo Salah for Egypt while Ghana will be with Kudus who returns after missing the opening match.

Having both failed to win their opening game, Egypt and Ghana know Thursday’s result is pivotal in their push for a place in the knockout stage.

Egypt are unbeaten in their last four games against the Black Stars and are expected to take the positive from Sunday’s draw and come away with a narrow victory at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny tomorrow.
