Aston Villa defeated Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League played on Wednesday evening.
Unai Emery was looking to win his fifth Europa League title with Aston Villa after booking the final. Morgan Rogers had the first chance, but his effort deflected, forcing the goalkeeper into a save. Nicolas Höfler had a chance for Freiburg, but his effort went wide of Martinez’s foot. Youri Tielemans then opened the scoring in the 41st minute after his volley beat Atibolu in goal. Villa then added the second goal deep into added time, with Buendia curling a wonderful effort to double the scores.
In the second half, Freiburg had the first chance through Beste, but his effort went wide of the bar. Morgan Rogers then added the third goal in the near post after meeting Buendia’s low cross. Aston Villa managed to hold on to the win and end their 44-year drought in European competitions.
