Atletico Madrid moved to within two points of rivals Real Madrid after their 5-2 win over Real Valladolid on Sunday evening.

Nahuel Molina, Jose Maria Gimenez, and Alvaro Morata handed Madrid a 3-0 halftime lead as the visitors took control of the contest. Real Valladolid fought back strongly in the second half with goals from Sergio Escudero and Cyle Larin, but Atletico Madrid was able to fight off the late rally with an own goal from Joaquin Fernandez and a Memphis Depay solo run in injury time to ensure a 5-2 win.

The win, which was the 8th in the last 9 games for Atletico Madrid with the only loss coming against Barcelona last weekend, took them off just two points below Real Madrid with 66 points after 32 games, while Real Madrid have 68 points.
