Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the Premier League.
The first half saw both teams create opportunities, with Chelsea’s Estevao Willian having a goal disallowed for offside. United responded through Bruno Fernandes, who fired over, while Amad Diallo tested goalkeeper Mike Penders. Moises Caicedo struck the post as Chelsea threatened before the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Morgan Rogers broke the deadlock with an impressive solo effort, beating United defenders before lifting the ball past Senne Lammens. United’s hopes suffered another setback when Lisandro Martinez was sent off following a second yellow card.
Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty in the 64th minute to double Chelsea’s advantage. Bryan Mbeumo later struck the crossbar as United searched for a response, but Chelsea held firm to claim three important points.
Speaking after the game, United manager Michael Carrick insisted he will be in charge against Roma. “There are no words that I’m going to explain to you now that make any difference; it’s not going to change it. We’ve got to move forward and win football matches; it’s as simple as that.” He said.
