Chelsea have confirmed the dismissal of head coach Mauricio Pochettino via mutual consent.

Pochetino has been in charge of Chelsea for just a year and guided the club to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, FA Cup semi-finals, and the Carabao Cup final.

Confirming the news, Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: ”On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge at any time, and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.” Read the statement.

Mauricio Pochettino thanked everyone at Chelsea for their support. “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come,” he said.

Chelsea players are said to be shocked by the news, and some of them took to social media to wish him all the best.
