Chelsea’s continued poor performance in the Premier League continued as they suffered yet another defeat by Unai Emery’s side, Aston Villa.
The first shot in a half filled with close calls came from the resurgent Moises Caicedo, who fired from outside the box straight at Emiliano Martinez.
Lucas Digne then gave Villa their first real shot at scoring, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez met it with a similarly fantastic save to tip the ball over the crossbar.
Ollie Watkins eventually scored the winning goal to make it another day to forget for Chelsea, who finished the game with 10 men following Malo Gusto’s red card. Chelsea have now failed to win and score for the third straight game.
However, according to Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino, they are building a project, and most of their key players are injured.
“We say we can’t lose because we are Chelsea? No. We are building a project, and as you know, most of our key players who could combine are injured,” said Pochettino in a post-match press conference.
