Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Tottenham’s pressure produced the best chance around the 29th minute, when Andy Robertson and Tel combined, and Omar Marmoush’s close-range effort was saved by Penders. Chelsea created their best chances through Pedro Neto, but Antonín Kinský denied him on each occasion. Jordan Henderson also saw his effort saved well. Cole Palmer’s effort was also pushed up the post.
In the second half, Chelsea saw Pedro Neto fail to control Colwill’s long ball as Kinksy intervened. Substitute Estevao saw his effort hit the sidenet. The deadlock was broken in the 77th minute. A corner from Mateus Fernandes was turned into his own net by Penders. Shortly afterwards, Palmer, who had earlier escaped a straight red card, received a second yellow for a foul on Gallagher. In the 87th minute, Tel won possession in his own half, advanced upfield and scored from 18 metres. His finish went low into the bottom-left corner.
It was the first home defeat for Chelsea under Xabi Alonso.
