Following his incognito in the just concluded World Cross Country held in Belgrade, Serbia, Emmanuel Wanyonyi has come out with reasons for the phenomenon.

The World 800 Meters Silver Medalist, was set to take part in the mixed relay team that went on to defend the title. The team that clinched the title comprised; Kyumbe Munguti, Purity Chepkirui, Reynold Cheruiyot, and Virginia Nyambura.

In a discourse with Pulse, Wanyonyi stated that his coach decided that the upcoming track events were bigger fish to fry.

“I was preparing for the cross country but my coach thought it would be wise for me not to go and focus on training for the track events,” the 19-year-old stated.

According to the W-U20 800-meter champion, Wanyonyi is shifting his focus on the upcoming Kip Keino Classic slated for April 20, 2024.

“…at the moment I’m just in the camp training for the Kip Keino Classic. I don’t have any targets set since it will be my first 800m race this season,” Wanyonyi said.
