Harambee Starlets forward Esse Akida will enjoy another season with newly-crowned Greek champions PAOK Women.The 30-year-old was romoured to have attracted interest from clubs in Germany, Finland and Ireland after conclusion of another successful season with the side where she helped them win a ninth consecutive league title in the Greek top-flight league.
She has enjoyed a stellar campaign, yet against, scoring 12 goals while her side won the league title.“Happy to report that my association with PAOK will continue for another year.
I feel happy here and can’t wait for what the new season has for us,” she announced on her socials media pages.
Akida joined PAOK back in July 2021 from Kenya Women Premier League (WPL) side Thika Queens and she emerged the top scorer with 18 goals in the 2021/22 season.
The club’s league winning streak from 2006 has only been broken once in 2013/14 by Amazones Dramas A.S.Akida is set to feature in the Champions League next season but PAOK will have to begin from the playoffs given Greece’s low UEFA Coefficient.
“The Kenyan striker, born in 1992 and with a height of 176cm, continues for the third year in the “black and white” after last year’s successful season in which she contributed the most to winning the 18th championship,” the club’s official website announced.
“Staying for a third year at PAOK means I’m having a great time at the club, and that’s something I like and motivates me to keep doing great. I want to thank the Management for their trust in me. It’s always a great feeling to be PAOK, I’m happy, I’m at home,” she told the club media.
