Tusker just bottled a good chance to win the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title. With Kakamega Homeboyz having stunned Gor Mahia 3-2 at the Nyayo National Stadium, a win for Tusker would have put the Brewers at a better pedestal to win the league but they could only fight back to draw 1-1 with Posta Rangers at Ruaraka.
Jackson Dwang put Posta Rangers ahead on nine minutes and they held on to the lead until the 54th minute when Ugandan forward Deogratious Ojok levelled matters. The Brewers tried to push for the winner, at some point Robert Matano pushing more fresh legs upfront but the Mail Men withstood the pressure to pick a point.
With the result, the title race has now been pushed to the final day of the season. Gor, who face Nairobi City Stars on Saturday afternoon, lead the log with 67 points while the Brewers, who will be up against Vihiga Bullets on the same day, are second with 66 points.
Nzoia Sugar FC’s hopes of winning the 2022/23 FKF Premier League ran out this evening after a 2-0 humbling on home ground by KCB FC. Goals from center-backs Hanif Wesonga and Maurice Ojwang enabled the bankers to go joint 3rd on the table standings with their opponents of the day.
At the half hour mark, Musa Masika stood behind a corner kick and upon delivery, Haniff Wesonga rose highest to beat on-form Humphrey Katasi in goal for Nzoia Sugar. KCB led on 33 minutes and looked very likely to add a second.
It would however be the hosts with the next clear-cut chance as striker Yassin Sije rattled the crossbar, Andika well beaten in goal. The visitors survived and knew very well that they had to cushion their lead.
It seemed to be a day meant for centre-backs as Maurice Ojwang stood behind a 48th minute penalty occasioned by a foul to beat Katasi once again.
The bankers led through the break. Upon restart, Hassan Beja cut through the bankers’ midfield to lay a through pass for Side but the burly forward was a second too late as Ojwang cleared the ball.
There was little the sugar millers could do as Zico’s men put the match under lock and key towards the closing stages of the game. 2-0 it ended in favour the bankers, a victory that places them one level points as Nzoia and tied on position 3 with Kenya Police FC.
Wazito FC beat Bidco United 1-0 in another game played at the Thika Sub County Stadium on Wednesday to earn a spot in the relegation playoff.
Christopher Raila scored the all important goal in the 15th minute to ensure that Muhoroni-based side bags all the three points and a lifeline in the top flight.
With Mathare United settling for 1-1 draw at Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in another game of the day, the gap widened, sealing Wazito’s survival, while the Slum Boys got relegated for the first time in their history.
With just a game to the end of the season, Wazito can now plan for the relegation playoff against either National Super League sides Migori Youth FC or Mara United.
