Harambee Stars interim head coach Francis Kimanzi has spoken after leaving several players out of the team.

The team is set to participate in the Mapinduzi Cup, which the country is using as a build-up for CHAN. The Mapinduzi Cup will also feature the Uganda Cranes from Uganda and the Taifa Stars from Tanzania. The tactician left some of the players who have been shining in the league this season. Notable names include Francis Kahiro, who has scored 8 goals for KCB this season. Brian Machira, who has seven goals to
his name for Shabana, has also not been called.

Kimani went on to say that the ones not invited for the cup will be the first to be called for the CHAN training camp next time. “The players who we have kept aside… who will not be travelling with the team for the Mapinduzi Cup, they will be the first in the camp when we will be preparing for the Chan. This Mapinduzi Cup is a blessing to us because it gives us an opportunity.” He concluded.

Stars will begin their action on Sunday against Burundi as they prepare to co-host CHAN alongside Tanzania and Uganda in February this year.
