In a bittersweet victory for Spain during the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Georgia, 19-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi faced a significant setback, sustaining a serious knee injury while controlling the ball. The talented player, with 27 caps for Spain and 111 appearances for Barcelona, left the Valladolid pitch in tears, raising concerns for both his club and country.

Despite the somber moment, La Roja secured their triumph in the qualifying match, solidifying their place in next summer’s Euros. Real Sociedad defender Robin le Normand swiftly put Spain ahead after four minutes, only to be equalized by Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. In the second half, Ferran Torres reclaimed the lead with a goal, and an own goal by Luka Lochoshvili sealed the victory.

It was a poignant celebration for Torres, who, also representing Barcelona, held up Gavi’s shirt in honor of his injured teammate.
