Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has rejected calls to sack head coach Charles Akonnor following their Mashemeji Derby loss to AFC Leopards. Despite fan frustration over the defeat and recent poor results, Rachier emphasized that losing matches is not enough reason to dismiss the coach.
K’Ogalo went into the derby as favorites but were beaten 1-0 by a determined Leopards side, marking Leopards’ first derby win in two years. Gor Mahia currently sit second in the league, just behind Kenya Police FC with games in hand, a position Rachier considers strong enough to avoid major changes.
Rachier urged patience, highlighting that all coaches face losses and that Akonnor is expected to learn and improve as the season progresses. Gor Mahia now prepare to face Bandari in their next match in Ukunda.
