Benfica manager Jose Mourinho has hit back at Vinicius Jr after the moment of racism.
Benfica against Real Madrid was filled with absolute chaos as the game went on. It all broke loose a few minutes into the second half when Vinicius Jr broke the deadlock for the away side. Vinicius Jr went to dance as he celebrated the goal, but he was met by loud boos inside the stadium. He then walked off the pitch after he accused Benfica player Prestianni of racially abusing him. There was a stoppage time of close to 10 minutes before the game resumed. Through the rest of the game, Vinicius Jr was met by loud boos whenever he was on the ball.
Speaking after full time, Jose Mourinho hit back at Vinicius by saying that he should not dance like that: “When it happens in so many stadiums, always with the same, there is something wrong. I told Vini, ‘You scored a wonder goal; why did you celebrate like that?’ Why can’t you celebrate a goal with just the happiness of being a great player? “I told Vini Jr the celebration had to be different. This club has Eusebio as a legend, a Black player. Benfica is NOT a racist club,” he said.
