Nairobi, Kenya – In a major boost for Kenyan football ambitions, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has revealed that the country has paid up its full share of the hosting fees for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Mvurya made the announcement on Tuesday, underscoring Kenya’s rock-solid dedication to co-hosting the prestigious tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

“The Government of Kenya has now fulfilled all its financial and organizational pledges to the Confederation of African Football (CAF),” he declared. “This includes the complete transfer of the USD 30 million hosting fee, which highlights our reliability, readiness, and unwavering resolve to stage a world-class event.”

The payment marks a critical milestone in the tri-nation bid, silencing doubts about Kenya’s financial muscle amid past delays in similar commitments. With AFCON 2027 set to light up stadiums across East Africa, this move positions the Harambee Stars’ homeland as a frontrunner in delivering thrilling matches, vibrant fan zones, and top-tier infrastructure.

Football enthusiasts are buzzing, viewing the development as a green light for accelerated preparations, including upgrades to Nyayo National Stadium and other venues. Mvurya’s statement comes at a pivotal time, as Kenya eyes not just hosting glory but also a strong showing from its national team on the continental stage.

As the countdown to 2027 intensifies, this fee clearance signals brighter days ahead for African football in the region.
