Lionel Messi

Tuesday’s match between Argentina and Curacao saw captain Lionel Messi break the 100-goal threshold with a hat-trick.

In a 7-0 rout of Curacao on Tuesday, Messi scored a hat-trick in just 37 minutes. With his goals, the 35-year-old joins Ali Daei of Iran (109) and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal (122) as the only players to reach over a century at the international level. Additionally, Messi is the first male South American athlete to accomplish the feat.

Nicholas Gonzalez, Enzo Fernandez, Angel Di Maria, who scored through a penalty kick, and Montiel scored the other four goals to finish off the international break in style.

Lionel Messi has enjoyed his international break after seeing the Argentina training facility named after him and the whole team parade their World Cup in front of their home fans.
