Liverpool defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League played at Anfield.

Both teams were on winning streaks going into the Wednesday game. Liverpool dominated the early stages of the game, with Szoboszlai’s effort easily saved by Courtois. Hugo Etikite saw his effort just sail wide after a lovely combination with Florian Writz. Real Madrid had limited chances in the first half as Mbappe’s effort sailed high off the post after a lovely layup by Jude Bellingham. Bellingham’s effort was saved after lovely skill to beat Konate. There was a VAR check late in the first half after Tchouameni appeared to have handled the ball, but no penalty was given.

In the second half, Liverpool kept on piling on pressure, and Virgil Van Dijk’s header was pushed over the bar by Courtois. Etikite’s effort from the resulting corner was also pushed away as the home crowd cheered on. Alexis MacAllister then opened the scoring from a free kick after meeting Szoboszlai’s cross. Trent Alexander-Arnold was brought on late and was met with heavy boos whenever he had the ball. Liverpool managed to hold on to win the game.
