Manchester City defeated Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to close the gap at the top.
City needed the win, especially after league leaders Arsenal suffered a 2-1 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side started on the strong foot as Semenyo had his shot easily saved by Erling Haaland. On the other hand, Pedro Neto forced Donnarumma into an incredible save as Chelsea grew into the game. Cole Palmer saw his effort saved by the keeper. Ryan Cherki’s effort went just wide of the far post. Marc Cucurella thought he had given Chelsea the lead after a lovely finish, but the offside flag went up.
In the second half, City got the lead through Nico O’Reilly, who met Cherki’s cross and headed into the net. Semenyo then saw his curling effort rise above the post as City dominated the early stages. Marc Guéhi then doubled the lead when Cherki met him after a lovely play. Donnarumma then brilliantly saved Cucurella’s effort after a lovely through ball by Lavia. Jeremy Doku then added the third goal after Caicedo lost possession in his own half.
Speaking after the game, Ryan Cherki said they are focused on the upcoming Arsenal game. “I don’t feel the pressure.”I just want to play with my teammates, give pleasure, and give the good pass to all of them.” “Now we can go play against Arsenal – that is a big game for us!” He said.
