After failing to win their previous four games, Arsenal beat struggling Chelsea 3-1 on Tuesday night at the Emirates in the Premier League.
The Gunners entered the encounter with Manchester City having overtaken their lead in the standings. At the Emirates, captain Martin Odegaard scored twice, and Gabriel Jesus punished Chelsea’s defense for not clearing the ball. Chelsea’s Ben Chillwell had the finest opportunity of the half, but Aaron Ramsdale expertly stopped his shot.
Chelsea was the superior team in the second half, and Madueke, who scored his first goal for Chelsea, gave them a goal back. Kepa also had brilliant saves to deny Granit Xhaka and Saka, and the score remained 3-1.
The Gunners regained the lead at the top with 78 points after 34 games, while Manchester City closed in on second with 76 points after 32 games played.
Chelsea have remained winless since Lampard took over, while Arsenal continue to hope Manchester City can drop points tonight against West Ham.
