Liverpool regained their seven-point cushion at the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield.

The Reds started brightly, with Diogo Jota volleying narrowly wide within 10 minutes.

However, it was Luis Díaz who broke the deadlock, bundling the ball home with his midriff after a miscued Toti Gomes clearance.

Díaz continued to cause problems for Wolves, setting up Jota for a chance that was thwarted by a sensational block from Emmanuel Agbadou.

Liverpool’s pressure eventually paid off, with Mo Salah converting a penalty just before halftime after José Sá fouled Díaz.

Wolves had chances to get back into the game, with Matheus Cunha coming close with a free-kick and Marshall Munetsi being denied by Alisson.

Cunha continued to probe and his effor paid off as he fired stunning effort to reduce the margin.

Despite a nervy second half, Liverpool held on to secure a crucial three points, re-establishing their seven-point lead at the top of the table.

The defeat leaves Wolves just above the relegation zone, with a tough road ahead
