Nairobi, Kenya – CAF President Patrice Motsepe has thrown his full weight behind the East African trio of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, declaring them firmly on track to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite mounting preparation challenges.

In a resounding vote of confidence, Motsepe dismissed concerns raised in a recent technical report that highlighted delays across the three nations. “The next AFCON is going to East Africa. I have no doubt about that, despite all the challenges,” he affirmed, drawing parallels to the successful navigation of hurdles during the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Motsepe’s optimism stems from high-level political backing and hands-on involvement. He singled out Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for their unwavering commitment. “I am very proud of the effort by President Ruto and very proud of the commitment I have received from President Samia and President Museveni,” Motsepe stated.

The CAF boss plans to visit Kenya in the coming weeks to rally further momentum, underscoring his proactive role in steering the project. This East African bid, unveiled as a landmark regional collaboration, promises to showcase the football passion of over 180 million people when it kicks off in 2027.

While infrastructure upgrades, stadium renovations, and logistical coordination remain key focus areas, Motsepe’s endorsement signals that the continental showpiece will light up the Lake Victoria basin as planned. Fans from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam can breathe easier – East Africa’s AFCON dream is alive and charging forward.
