“Our joint bid with Uganda and Tanzania for the Afcon 2027 is strong. It is about time the Africa Cup of Nations comes to East Africa,” these are Ababu Namwamba’s words that many thought were just hot air at the time of speaking but HURRAY! They are a reality!

Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have clinched the rights to host the AFCON 2027 bid following the announcement of the Confederation of Africa (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe in Cairo.

The joint bid had stiff competition from the likes of the joint bid from Nigeria and Benin, Algeria, and Senegal.

“Presidents Ruto (Kenya), Suluhu, and Museveni were very instrumental and committed to ensuring the tournament will be successfully hosted in East Africa. The movement of people in these three countries during the tournament is important and we are guaranteed that everything will be okay,” Motsepe said while making the announcement.

Kenya hopes to right its earlier wrongs of failing to host the African spectacle by abiding by the requirements required to make the stadiums ready.

Kenya was granted hosting rights for the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996 and the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in 2018. However, on both occasions, they were stripped of these rights due to infrastructural inadequacies.

Morocco was granted the hosting rights for AFCON 2025.
