Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 on post-match penaties to advance to the finals of the AFCON on Sunday.

Both teams managed to play to a 1-1 draw during normal game time and also during the extra time. Nigeria opened the deadlock in the 67th minute through a penalty kick by Troost Ekong. South Africa were awarded a penalty kick in the 90th minute, in which Teboho Mokoena scored to level the score and send it to extra time.

During the extra time, South Africa finished with 10 men after Grant Kekana was sent off for a last-man defender tackle. In the penalty shootouts, Nigeria scored four of their five penalty kicks through Terem Moffi, Kenneth Omeruo, Troost Ekong, and Ihenacho, who scored the winning penalty kick as Ola Aina missed his kick. South Africa scored just two penalty kicks as Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa missed their kicks as Mayambela and Mvala scored their kicks.
