Of all the Kenya female midfielders, this specific one is just different. By many accounts of women’s football enthusiasts, is one of the most talented midfielders in the FKF Women Premier League.
I am sure many of you have seen her insanely beautiful passes and amazing vision. She is a midfielder with so much flair, and it seems she can never make a simple pass. She is no other than Kibera Soccer Women’s Golden Girl Maximila Robi Muniko popularly known as Debryune.
Robi is one of the players to watch out for in the coming FKF-WPL 2024-25 season. Being a finalist in the 2023-24 FKF Gala awards– Female MVP category, Robi has already become a household name in the country.
Last season she made a total of 18 appearances for Kibera Soccer Women, scoring a total of 8 goals, and providing 5 assists. These are Impressive numbers for a league debutant.
Her importance to Kibera Soccer Women was apparent during the 2023-24 FKF Women Cup final, against winners Ulinzi Starlets, when coach Rama Vijago introduced her in the second half, by then her team was trailing 2-0. She flipped the game to Kibera Soccer Women’s favor and they almost salvaged a 2-2 comeback. The game ended 2-1.
With Kibera Soccer Women maintaining their last season’s squad and beefing up their defense with the acquisition of Mathare United Women right back, Janet Mumo, the squad is ready to challenge for the title. Maximila Robi will be the linchpin, where every phase of play will tick through her.
Flair, combined with character makes a lethal player. This is what makes Robi. It also provides separation among her peers.
In her own words, “I want to be the first girl from Mathare to make it in football at the highest level so that young girls from my neighborhood can have someone they can look up to and inspire them.”
The Harambee Starlets international hopes to play professionally in Europe someday, and urges women, footballers, never to give up on their dreams.
“If I had quit when everyone wanted me to, I wouldn’t be here now. Most of the girls I started with no longer play football.”
