Tonali has been charged with misconduct in relation to 50 alleged counts of placing bets on football matches during the first two months of the 2023-24 season. This would contravene Rule E8 of the Football Association’s regulation.

Newcastle United signed Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan on a five-year contract until 2028 with a transfer fee of €70 million ($76.28m) with add-ons.

The Italian midfielder who is currently serving a 10-month world wide secret ban was set to return to playing for Newcastle on 27 August 2024.

Tonali is yet to be face the FA panel over the allegations put against him after thorough investigation. Newcastle wold not be expecting the sooner return of Tonali unless proven guilty and his charges dropped.
