Senegal defeated Iraq 5-0 on Friday night in their last group game played in Toronto.

Abdoulaye Seck gave Senegal the lead after meeting a corner kick which was deflected in. Iraq were then reduced to 10 men when Rebin Sulaka brought Mane down on the edge of the box and was sent off after VAR intervention. Ismael Jakobs had a glorious chance, but his effort just missed the target going into half-time.

After the half-time break, Ismaïla Sarr was released on goal and doubled the lead in the 56th minute. Senegal started taking advantage, and Papa Gueye added the third goal via a left-footed strike into the top corner. He then added his second goal of the game after being teed up by Ndiaye before striking past Jalal Hassan in goal. Illiman Ndiaye then rounded off a comfortable night for the African champions when he fired the fifth goal into the top corner.

Pape Thiaw’s men will have to wait further to see if they can go through to the next round among the best 3rd teams.
