Kenyan athletes have received temporary relief from immediate sanctions by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) after Kenya submitted a corrective anti-doping program, which is currently under review before a final decision is made.
On 11 September, WADA declared the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) non-compliant with its global anti-doping code. This followed ADAK’s failure to address critical shortcomings identified in a May 2024 audit. The Executive Committee endorsed recommendations from the independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) and gave ADAK a 21-day deadline, until 2 October, to either dispute the non-compliance or submit a corrective action plan.
Ahead of the deadline, ADAK provided a four-month corrective action plan aimed at resolving the identified deficiencies. As a result, WADA’s management referred the matter back to the CRC for further evaluation rather than imposing immediate sanctions.
WADA’s statement highlighted that ADAK made significant and verifiable progress through the corrective action plan, which outlines how it intends to address the outstanding issues within four months. Until the CRC completes its reassessment and possibly makes further recommendations to the Executive Committee, and until the Executive Committee reaches a final decision, the sanctions against ADAK will remain suspended. WADA will continue to provide updates as the case develops.
