Kenyan youngster Wilson Chepkwech is quickly establishing himself as one of the country’s brightest middle-distance talents.
The 16-year-old produced a superb performance in the men’s 1500m at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon, winning gold in a personal-best 3:37.46. He led Kenya to a memorable 1–2 finish, with David Kapaiko Sekento taking silver in 3:38.32.
Chepkwech had earlier qualified for the championships after winning the 1500m at Kenya’s U20 trials in Nairobi in 3:40.88. His latest victory adds another major achievement to an impressive breakthrough season.
At just 16, Chepkwech is already showing the speed, composure and finishing strength associated with elite middle-distance runners, giving Kenya another exciting prospect to watch in the years ahead.
