Chelsea opened the FIFA Club World Cup tournament with a convincing 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles FC.

Enzo Maresca’s side fielded a strong team in the opening game of the tournament and controlled the game from the start. Noni Madueke had an early chance on goal, but his low, powerful shot was well saved by Hugo Lloris. Cole Palmer also saw his effort sail just wide off the post as Chelsea kept on pilling pressure. The opening goal eventually came in when Nicolas Jackson released Pedro Neto on goal, and the Portuguese international finished off brilliantly.

In the second half, Chelsea continued their dominance with Jackson’s header cleared off the line. Dennis Bouanga provided immediate response to LA Galaxy, but Robert Sanchez denied him brilliantly. Enzo Fernandez then added the second goal after a beautiful cross from summer signing Liam Delap. Martinez was close to providing a consolation for LA, but he failed to convert his chances.

Speaking after the game, defender Levi Colwill was happy with the team’s performance: “We know they’ve got amazing players and they’re a really good team, but we’ve got to play our football.” No matter who we’re playing, we play our football really confidently. … You’ve got to pick your moments, and I think we’ve done that well today.” He said.
