The 36-year-old scored in injury time to complete an amazing 2-1 League Cup victory after Uriel Antuna cancelled out Robert Taylor’s brilliant first-half goal. Speaking after his debut, Lionel Messi said he knew he had to score. “What I saw was the goal,” Messi said. “I saw the goal. I knew that I had to score.” It was the last play of the game, and I wanted to score, so I didn’t go to penalties, he said. Sergio Busquets also made his debut, but Jordi Alba still has work to complete before making his debut.
The sold-out, eager crowd included celebrities like LeBron James, Serena Williams, Kim Kardashian, and, of course, Inter Miami owner David Beckham. It was the ideal conclusion to an evening that drew fans of all ages wearing Messi 10 shirts.
