Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen has announced the discontinuation of the Talanta Hela national and regional tournaments.

The tournaments, held across the country last year, saw a select team travel to Spain for a training camp, where they played several friendly matches.

Eleven players from the tournament were part of the Kenya U17 team at the Girls World Cup in the Dominican Republic, while others helped Kenya qualify for the U20 AFCON in the boys’ category.
Some players are currently training for the U17 AFCON qualifiers for boys, set to begin in Uganda in a week’s time.

“I have directed the Kenya Academy of Sports to focus on nurturing young talent, leaving older players, who have graduated from this level, to be managed and developed by their respective federations.

The national tournaments we held last year, though beneficial, can now be organized by sponsors, county governments, and federations.

We want the Kenya Academy of Sports to concentrate on supporting young talent in primary and secondary schools. This is our focus,” Murkomen stated.
