The death of former Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat doesn’t erase Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) obligation for his KSh75 million salary arrears and breach claims. The Turkish-Cypriot tactician resigned in December 2024 amid a poor run and Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen’s directive, then filed with FIFA demanding payment.

Firat collapsed at a Turkish airport on Monday while heading back from coaching Nejmeh SC in Lebanon—laid to rest Tuesday. Sports lawyer Sarah Ochwada clarifies: such disputes persist as patrimonial rights, with heirs or representatives continuing via FIFA’s tribunal.

FKF remains liable for dues up to his passing, plus compensation. Firat’s 2021-2024 tenure featured Qatar wins and Ivory Coast draws, but losses to Mali, Cameroon, and South Sudan, often blamed on venue woes forcing “home” games abroad.
